As we progress with our environmental mission we finally signed a memorandum of understanding with City of Harare Ward 15 officials and we were awarded 9 environmental projects to work on. These projects are:
1. Rehabilitating a 30 hectare refuse and liquid waste dumping space through afforestation.
2. Carry out sewerage upgrades in ward 15.
3. Drill 5 boreholes to supply safe water to community.
4. Build a School or a Vocational Training Centre in ward 15.
5. Plant more trees in 12 designated areas in ward 15.
6. Carry outreach programmes designed to educate the public in Environmental care and management.
7. Continue research work on Environmental challenges and possible solutions.
8. Carry out poverty alleviation, disaster response, and do community empowerment work.
9. Participate in providing creative solutions to waste management, disease prevention poverty alleviation, clean energy support services, environmental friendly transport services and technologies.
This is a big challenge to SEES. This assignment can never be accomplished by us alone, but by teaming up with the global community of concerned environmentalists. This is the time that SEES’ seriousness in environmental issues has been put to test. We began our advocacy with zeal and vigour, but now we feel humbled by the overwhelming task set before us. Now society is looking up to us for solutions.
We have nurseries ready for transplantation, but all this require working capital. We have started reaching out to friends and organisations that can assist in footing the tree transplanting costs which includes; Labour, transportation to the field from nurseries, irrigation and plant care or maintenance. If we can get individuals who are willing to foot the cost of planting one tree for the 30 000plants we are targeting to plant that will give us much happiness. The average cost for naturing a plant in this case is US $23.
This require resources. Let’s pray for God’s answer I this.
